Frequently asked questions
How many bricks per m² of wall?
Standard UK 215 × 102.5 × 65 mm bricks with 10 mm joints = 60 bricks/m² of single-skin wall (120/m² for a cavity wall with two skins).
How much mortar do I need per 1000 bricks?
About 0.8 m³ of mortar per 1000 standard bricks with 10 mm joints — roughly 25 × 25 kg bags of ready-mix, or 250 kg cement + 1250 kg sand loose.
What mortar mix for facing brickwork?
M4 grade: 1 : 1 : 6 (cement : lime : sand) for standard exposure, M6 (1 : 0.5 : 4.5) for chimneys or exposed weather sides. Adding lime keeps the mortar flexible and self-healing.
How many blocks per m²?
Standard 440 × 215 mm blocks with 10 mm joints = 10 blocks/m² of wall. A 3 × 2.4 m garage wall (7.2 m²) needs ~72 blocks.
