Frequently asked questions
How much extra flooring should I order for waste?
Add 8–10 % for straight lay, 12–15 % for diagonal, 15–20 % for herringbone or rooms with many cut-outs. Keep at least one full pack for later repairs.
Do I need underlay under laminate or vinyl?
Yes for laminate (2–3 mm foam or fibreboard) and for click-vinyl over uneven subfloors. Do not double up if the plank already has an attached IXPE pad — it voids the warranty.
What expansion gap around the walls?
8–10 mm for laminate and engineered wood on runs up to 8 m, 12–15 mm above that. Skirting or scotia hides it. Skip the gap and the floor buckles on the first humid week.
Which direction should planks run?
Run planks parallel to the longest wall or perpendicular to the main light source — both make the room look larger and hide seams.
